Social Media Tip - Keep the Salesy Stuff to a Minimum!

What do the words "used car salesman" bring to mind? Probably a pushy, likely unsavory character who will go to any length to sell you their product.

This is NOT the look you want to portray on social media!

Customers quickly click away when every post is just trying to sell them something, they don't want to be sold to.

People want to establish real connections and relationships, and that is the secret to getting your audience to trust you. When they trust you, they become customers who buy from you!

So how do you do that?

Be human! Every post doesn't have to be about your products or services. Some non-salesy ideas include:

• Regularly share images of your office and staff with introductions, their favorite quotes, or other personalized content that allows people to get to know you.

• Create interactive posts asking followers to share a sentiment or image - their dog, their favorite recipe etc.

• Ask patients to sign a release and take a selfie in your office/trying on glasses that you can share on your social media.

• Host a monthly contest where participants can earn entries by liking or sharing a specific post. Select randomly from the participants to win a prize like a gift certificate to your optical, or a gift certificate to another local small business (food, coffee, boutique store etc.).

But what if I do have a sale or promotion going on?

Share it! Customers love a sale or promotion, so it is appropriate to share posts talking about it. Just make sure you don't spam them with only these type of buy our stuff posts. And, make the posts relatable and personal by incorporating many of the above tactics into the sale post. For example, have a staff member or patient do a "this or that" frame comparison with side by side images, and then in your post explain to patients how they can get both with your multiple pair deal, or provide details on whatever the promotion/sale is.

People are bombarded with ads on social media, so using it to your advantage to create relationships and let people get to know your staff and your business will garner more positive attention than using the platforms to just sell your services!
